Magic City Choral Society

The Magic City Choral Society, Birmingham's LGBT Chorus, will be sharing the joy of the season on December 22 at the Alys Stephens Center for their third annual Holiday Concert. Be there early--it's free and everyone is invited. The concert begins at 7:00 PM.

We will be annoucing this at our next meeting (December 17th, same time, same place) before our guest speaker begins. If anyone is able to go, we might make a BAGSLY outing of it. It would be great to go and sit as a group. If we DID go, we'd probably want to arrive around 6:00 so we could get decent seats. This will be on a Tuesday, most schools will be out by this time so scheduling issues due to school should be no problem! Scout and I are very excited for the next meeting.

PLEASE bring a friend. PLEASE. We really want to put BAGSLY out there and make it known to the LGBT Youth community. Thanks to everyone who has supported us!

What's Happening

Our next meeting is approaching on December 3rd, from 6:30pm - 8:00pm. I'm so happy with the turn out we had last time, and I hope the numbers continue to increase. Please, PLEASE, bring your friends and invite people you know. Scout and I have been having some conversations about what we can do in the group, here are a few things we came up with:

-We would like to screen some LGBT Movies, not all neccesarily educational either. Milk is the first we plan on screening. The date for this is still in planning.

-Have a safer sex organization come speak with the group and give a presentation

-History discussions

-LGBT News Articles would be interesting to read and dicuss in meetings

-We would like to have outings, go ice skating, etc. If anyone has any suggestions for things you'd like to do, let us know! We want to build a community of friends.

-One of our bigger projects that we knows we'd really like to do is to have a Gay Prom. Many people don't like attending prom or can't attend with thei boyfriends and/or girlfriends because school's aren't accepting. This would, of course, be later in the year but it's good to get it out there.

PLEASE, and I can't stress this enough, PLEASE let us know what YOU want. Scout and I are only two people, so our ideas obviously can't compensate for the ideas we could get from everyone else. We would like to say thank you to everyone who has supported us in forming this group, and we're very proud of everyone. The group is really turning into the perfect place for us. Thank you!

First Meeting

Scout and I (Jared) have been anticipating the reformation of BAGSLY for quite some time now. Finally, we have a date for the meeting. This coming Thursday, November 19 is from 6:30-8:00pm is the official date. We will be discussing the direction everyone would like to see the group start off in, and of course we'll get to know each other. BAGSLY is a group for people from high school age up to college age. We encourage everyone to attend and bring your friends! We will be providing snacks for everyone.

See you there!
